Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant program fulfills the requirement of the 75 hour Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) for the training of long-term care nursing assistants. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff. Duties may include: bathing, grooming and feeding patients; obtaining and monitoring vital signs; ambulatory assistance and comfort measures. The Nursing Assistant program is taught in-person, 4 weeks, Monday — Thursday 8am-1pm and on the last 2 days of clinical 7am-3:30pm.

The cost for our Nursing Assistant program is $900 (this includes the $150 non-refundable registration application fee).

Tuition must be paid in full before students attend clinical learning experience. Upon successful completion of program requirements, students are prepared to take the Alabama Nurse Aide Registry examination to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Alabama’s CNAs are under the jurisdiction of the Alabama Department of Public Health.

   NURSE AIDE COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Students must be a US Citizen, at least 18 years of age, and have High School Diploma or GED

  • Students must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

  • CLEAR Criminal Background Check  

  • Negative Drug Screen

  • Valid Government Issued ID (Driver’s license)

  • Social Security Card

  • Negative PPD Test or Chest X-Ray  

  • Able to pass a physical exam  

 The following are required dependent upon the program or clinical site:

1. Physical – see physical form

2. Proof of immunization: TB skin test and influenza (during flu season)

3. Proof of health insurance

3. Proof of COVID vaccination

Acute Healthcare Institute is licensed by the Private School Licensure Division of the Alabama Community College System as a Private school to offer programs of instruction within the state of Alabama.

All students are responsible for the cost of their physical exam, uniform and state testing fee.
